Hi All! Last time we talked about the four elements of a “Structure of Good Health” for our beloved canine companions:
1) Exposing them to new situations that require adaptive social behavior
2) Daily sustained exercise to maintain healthy joints, heart and other muscles, 3) Nutritious and varied fresh foods
4) Good restorative rest.
Today we are going to talk about daily “Talk Time”.
Daily “Talk Time”: Do you realize that in order to make eye contact with us, our dogs have to look up? “Talk Time” is an opportunity for us to come to where they are and be in conscious, social connection with them. For example, when my beloved companions were a pack of six, we used to go to a downstairs play room and roll around together and play. Now I like to sit on the floor with my little Kringle and Lullies and smile and play with them or look into their eyes and just talk quietly to them. While they may not understand the words I speak, they do “feel” the love in my heart and hear my tone of voice. In the same way that they feel my joy in being in close connection with them, I also “feel” their excitement and pleasure that we are connected in this way. “Talk Time” nourishes our relationship and is a real support to their general well-being and overall health.
Perhaps this is enough for today. Let me know how you and your furry friends responded to “Talk Time”.
Next time let’s talk about the importance of routine…….
